Other Important Information

If you have signed up this year to manage or coach a rec team (either baseball or softball), please read the following information.

This year you may only manage/coach one team. The only possible exception is if a parent wants to manage a Tee Ball team, as well as, a Baseball or Softball team.

The Glen Rock Baseball Association (GRBA) feels that, in the best interest of the children participating in our program, the managers and coaches should complete the following courses:

bullet

Rutgers Safety Training Course: This course is conducted on the first Thursday evening of every month at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood to reserve a seat (1-800-825-5391). Dates for 2004 are March 4th, April 1st, May 6th and June 3rd. The courses run from 6:30PM to 10:00PM. For other times or locations, call Rutgers Safety directly at 732-932-7178. The course costs approximately $35 - which the GRBA will reimburse. Once you have completed this session you are certified for life. (Required)

bullet

ProPlayers Baseball Academy Coaching Clinic: This clinic will be held here in Glen Rock on Tuesday March 30th, 7:30 PM in the Coleman School gym. The clinic will instruct managers and coaches on ways to teach baseball fundamentals to children. (Highly recommended)

bullet

Volunteer Ambulance Course: The Ambulance Corps in town has volunteered to give an additional course on Safety. The course will be held Thursday, April 1st, 7:30 PM, at the Glen Rock Ambulance Squad HQ on Maple Ave.  (Highly recommended)

It is Glen Rock Baseball Association (GRBA) policy that all association participants -- players, parents, coaches, umpires, spectators and administrators -- have a right to a safe and fun experience, free from abuse (physical, emotional and sexual) and violence, in all association activities. Please refer to our Anti Abuse Policy, which may be accessed on the left.

Coaching skill videos are available at the Glen Rock Public Library for baseball and softball. Topics covered: pitching, hitting, and defensive skills. The Library also has several books of interest to coaches and players.

bullet

Players should wear proper uniforms. Pants should be either black baseball pants or black sweat pants for Junior, Pony and Senior leagues. For Pony and Senior leagues, sliding pants and knee pads are encouraged. Caps are optional.

bullet

Please check and clean your equipment regularly (especially catchers mask and helmet). An extra set of catchers equipment will be installed in the knack box at the field. Also included will be a medical kit, batting helmets and bases.

bullet

Communicate to your players, and their parents, your expectations and guidelines prior to the season, preferably in writing.

bullet

Refer to your GRBA Safety manual for further rules and suggestions.

Interested in learning more about baseball rules? There is a direct link to Jim Booth's rule pages. Booth is an umpire in California District 3 for The Little League, and he also serves as a rule interpreter for the district. His pages demonstrate the finer points of some of the trickier rules.
