News for Baseball Players

Welcome to the 2012 Recreation Baseball Season! Our Opening Day Parade will take place on Saturday morning, April 14th at 9am. More details to follow later on. Depending on the league your son is playing in, rosters will be posted on our website starting in early March. Rosters for our younger grades will be posted later in the month of March. If your son has a classmate or friend who has not signed up yet, please send them to www.grba.org to register on-line.

Depending on when fields are opened by the Town, we hope to begin having practices by the end of March and early April.

Looking ahead to the summer, Glen Rock Varsity Baseball Coach Joe Sutera runs a camp every summer. Boys will learn baseball fundamentals and have a lot of fun. Check out the registration form HERE for more details.

Attention Coaches: All GRBA coaches are invited to a FREE Catching Clinic presented by Glen Rock High School Baseball Coach Joe Sutera. In this clinic Coach Sutera will discuss the philosophy of catching, development of young catchers, drills to improve skill level and the position as a whole. There is no need to RSVP. Feel free to spread the word to other coaches/dads that might be interested in this great opportunity. The clinic will be held at the Central School Auditorium on February 29th at 8pm.

The GRBA is seeking volunteers. If you are interested in serving on a field maintenance crew please contact Mike Morrow at morrowm@optonline.net. These crews help us save games after rain. If you are interested in volunteering at the Hamilton Snackstand please contact Paul Cunningham atpac021967@yahoo.com. Snackstand revenue helps us fund programs and complete field improvements

Parents are urged to contact league commissioners with specific questions about each league. If you volunteered to coach (or would like to volunteer to coach) and have not heard anything yet, please contact your commissioner. A list of commissioners can be found at http://www.grba.org/commissioners/.

GRBA/GRHS Softball Clinic – THIS WEEK!!

For those of you who are not aware, every winter the GRBA in partnership with the Glen Rock High School Girls’ Softball team provides a clinic for the recreational softball program.  Unfortunately, this year we were not able to secure as much gym time as in the past, but we will be holding two clinic days starting this Wednesday February 22nd.  Following are the details:

Who: All registered rec players K-8

What:  Hitting/Fielding and Throwing Clinic divided into three separate 40 minute sessions by grade.

When:      Wednesdays February 22nd and 29th

Grades K-2  7:00-7:40pm

Grades 3-5  7:40-8:20pm

Grades 6-8  8:20-9:00pm

Where:  Coleman Gym

Why:  Primarily because it is fun!  Also you will develop your throwing, hitting and catching skills with instructions provided by GRHS Softball players.

Cost:  Zero ($0) because all instruction is provided by the volunteer efforts of the GRHS Softball players, all of whom were former rec players.

IF INTERESTED, WE NEED THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION (send to michelle.cunningham@bayer.com)

Catching Coaches Clinic

Attention Coaches: All GRBA coaches are invited to a FREE Catching Clinic presented by Glen Rock High School Baseball Coach Joe Sutera. In this clinic Coach Sutera will discuss the philosophy of catching, development of young catchers, drills to improve skill level and the position as a whole. There is no need to RSVP. Registration – website issue

A few people were having problems accessing the registration link the other evening.  I contacted Activenetwork and things should be okay now.  Here is what they said:

On Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, LeagueOne was undergoing scheduled website maintenance.  This appears to have also inadvertently affected the front end of the website.   The site should be working normally now and your players and coaches should be able to access the website and resume your regular use of LeagueOne without any further interruptions.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused.

Not too late to register!!

While we prefer that people register early for administrative reasons, it is not too late to register.  We ask that people register at their earliest convenience but your child will not be shut out if you register a reasonable amount of time prior to our season.

Help us reach out to new players!

One challenge that we face is reaching out to younger families that have not registered players in the past.  If you know somebody with a Kindergartner or perhaps 1st grader that did not play last year, please feel free to direct them to our website, www.grba.org, so that they can register online.  Also, let them know that they can like us on Facebook (and so can you)!

Your help is always appreciated!

Volunteering to Coach

If you indicated during the online registration process that you want to  coach or assistant coach, there is nothing more that you need to do.  If more information is needed, we will follow up via email.

If you want to coach or assistant coach, but did NOT indicate it during the online registration process, please drop an email to the commissioner of the division in which you would like to coach.  Unfortunately, the registrar (me) is unable to indicate your desire to coach in the report that will be sent to the respective commissioners.  The names and emails of the commissioners can be found HERE.  A few are not yet determined but keep checking and they will be there.  As always, any questions can be directed to me at grbaregistrar@gmail.com.

Registration Issues, cont’d

For those of you with more than one child, we have just found out there is a flaw in the system where if you do not register your children in the same transaction, you will not receive the mult-child or family discount.  If anyone is overcharged, they will receive a full refund of the overcharged amount.  I will be checking all records to see if anyone was overcharged and if you were, we will let you know and issue a refund.  As a reminder, the cost for one child is $80, two children is $140 and the family max is $170.

If at all possible, please register all children at once to avoid the issue.

We apologize, again, for any and all inconveniences related to this new process.

Registration Issues

If you are having any problems or have any questions regarding Online Registration please drop me an email at grbaregistrar@gmail.com.

We have corrected an issue that was preventing some people from registering their kindergartners online.  If you had a problem earlier, please try again.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you are planning to coach or assistant coach, you do not need to fill out any additional forms despite the pop up screen that was appearing.  I have eliminated the pop up for future registrants.  If both spouses are interested in coaching, drop me an email and we will take care of it.

Thanks for bearing with us as we go through this for the first time.
